Passion is a Bootleg Trophy (Getting Back to my Poetic Roots)

Yesterday morning, I intentionally slowed down. It’s a much-needed practice but a hard one. I broke out Maya and then poet Taylor Mali’s Metaphor Dice (because I wanted to challenge myself to return to my poetic roots).

I rolled the dice and got this:

Metaphor Dice

I paused and pondered for a good 5 minutes before I wrote anything down. And then I wrote the following:

Typewritten poem using Maya, my 1961 Underwood 18 typewriter

Writing this was fun! It was, if naught else, an exercise in contemplation before application (writing). Who knows? Getting back to my poetic roots may not be so hard after all!

  1. A great way to exercise the imagination, working with three random words and trying to bring coherence and narrative to them! Good work!

  2. RJ, think you’d be a good mystery novelist too if you put your mind and 1961 Underwood to it.

And yes, the finish line, THE Finish Line, being in Jesus’ Presence, THE hope of glory, that’s what comes to my puny mind when you say that, after all the derailments.

Think your also a good allegorizer.
